We forgot to brings any games out to play in the evenings and so James and I bought a Nigeria Scrabble Set yesterday... there has been some debate as to what are legal words as we don't have a dictionary ... in particual as to whether 'jib' and 'berg' were words so any help on these would be great...

17.07.2010 :: Saturday

We're now at the halfway point of the course. By God's grace we've had a really good first week. The class have been very encouraged as we've studied the whole OT in just 5 days...!!! They seem to be grasping God's big plans and purposes, which is very exciting. They are also working very hard, and doing well at learning a new memory verse(s) every day (some of which are three verses long - thanks Adrian). Godwin continues to be an encouragement to both us and to the class, and has proved himself to be competant in understanding God's word and in teaching it.

Please pray for next week as we look at the NT, that we'd continue to teach clearly and faithfully and that the class would continue to be thrilled as they see how Jesus is the fulfillment of all God's plans. Pray to for our health: Adrian seems to have a throat/ear infection (fortunately he brought out antibiotics for it), and I've got a bit of a dodgey stomach. Lastly, we're looking into moving our return flights to next Sat (24th), as both of us have commitments/prep to do when we return, so please pray that we'd be able to do this.

13.07.2010 :: Monday-Tuesday

There is so much to be thankful for. The Lord gave us a great journey to Abuja, and Godwin and Richard were already there at the airport and took us to Makurdi. The diocese have put us up at a local hotel and we are being looked after very well. 22 students came to the class on Monday and 23 on Tuesday and they are very keen and have worked really hard and made good progress. One of our biggest encouragements has been Godwin himself. He is extremely organised and a gifted bible teacher with a lovely pastoral heart for the students in the class. Yesterday he encouraged the class to study first and foremost out of their love for the Lord and only secondly to do well in the exam. He also made some really helpful observations about the pattern of creation, decreation and recreation as well as comments on the purpose of the law and strategy for answering exam questions. James and I have a strong convicton from the Lord that we are here for a purpose - to help Godwin and the diocese in their desire to equip the church to correctly handle the word of God. Please pray that the students make more and more connections as they see how God's Big Picture fits together.

James and I are doing my final packing and preparations before heading for Heathrow in about an hour. We are hoping that Nigeria will be somewhere where we can cool down! Please pray for good first contact.

Hi Adrian! Happy Birthday for whenever it was! You kept that quiet. Are you sure it wasn't 30? Anyway sounds like you are being encouraged and just wanted to let you know we at HBC are indeed praying that the encouragement will continue, particularly as you minister to Godwin who sounds a real gem. May the Lord give you all needed strength to keep pouring out of the riches in Christ. Keep safe,dear brother, love from us all
