05.07.2010 :: Arrived Back

Thanks for all your prayers. We arrived back in London yesterday after a lot of traveling!

The journey went very smoothly. They were showing DVDs on the plane. I watched 'Clash of the Titans' and Simon watched 'Date Night' - apparently a classic!

Thanks again

03.07.2010 :: 4 Things

When we arrived we told the Pastors that during the two weeks we trying help them with 4 things. We wanted them to...

1. Know Ephesians 2. Be Change by Ephesians 3. Be able to Preach from Ephesians 4. Pass an Exam on Ephesians

Even though not everyone did number 4, please pray that 1,2 and 3 will be true of all them and of us.

03.07.2010 :: Journey Home

We are just about to leave Gusau and drive to Abuja. We will spend one night there and God willing we will fly out of Abuja early Sunday morning. Your prayers for safe travel would be appreciated.

03.07.2010 :: Exam Done

The Students sat their exam yesterday. 12 passed, 5 failed. Justice was done.

26.06.2010 :: Encouraged

It's impossible not be be fired up by the guys we're teaching. They are incredibly appreciative, despite the fact that they're making bigger sacrifices to be there than we are, and their love for Christ is so obvious. They are just stuffed full of gospel joy. Give them half a chance and they'll go off on one about this truth or that. Talk about passion!

It's an old cliche, but I wonder: who are the teachers, and who are the students?

26.06.2010 :: Music

These Nigerians are seriously musical. Whether it be the children from the nearby school singing in beautiful harmony, or the unbelievable band from the church midweek meeting, it just sounds awesome. Perfect harmonies from the kids, and the band...a stunning bit of drumming; lightening quick hands, a bassist dancing up and down the fretboard. I was transfixed! And for the rest of the service, someone will start singing, and the keyboardist will tinker around until he matches their key, and then play it off the cuff.

Time to step up UK!

26.06.2010 :: This coming Sunday

As I was leaving class yesterday, one of the Pastors asked if I would be willing to give a sermon at a local church on the Sunday morning. All plans are flexible and can change with the wind so this may or may not happen.

Having sat in on a midweek service this week and listened to their style of service it makes me wish I had sat in on some of the mission modules at college about how to communicate in different cultures! - Your prayers would be appreciated.

26.06.2010 :: First Week

We have just finished the first week. We have a total of 15 Students now, but some are pretty irregular and will struggle to keep up with the course given how much they are missing.

The Students are still enthusiastic and are working very hard. A boiled sweet each day seems to be keeping them awake in the hot weather - I fear if I ever forget to bring the sweets we may have a small riot on our hands!

22.06.2010 :: Food

The food is awesome... Plantain and Yam are the way forward. Serve that for lunch and you sleep like a baby.

22.06.2010 :: 2nd Day

The pastors are a pleasure to teach, their joy is a great encouragement to us.

We have been teaching through Ephesians 1:1-23 today. Various issues came up that were helpful to address, your prayers for wisdom on how to apply God's word to their context would be appreciate.

Tomorrow we will be meeting up with two of them to listen to them preach a short sermon from Ephesians, we hope that that will be a productive time for them.

22.06.2010 :: First Teaching Day

We had 5 students turn up in the morning and 4 in the evening. It was great to meet them, your prayers would be appreciated for us as we think through how to present the course in the way that will be most helpful to these men.

Hi Guys, Sorry again for the blog going down - it's being bombarded with spam, and my last attempt didn't to fix it didn't work. The new work-around is that you have to login. And when it asks you for the password, you need to type "iamnotspam" Sorry again, Rick.
